Brian Wee was an undergraduate student at Harvard College studying Chemical and Physical Biology and Government with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. Within the lab, he worked on designing novel CRISPR-based diagnostic assays for infectious diseases to more effectively identify and address future outbreaks. In addition, Brian worked to perform computational analyses of complex patient data to characterize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic – to this end, he led a successful IRB process to obtain access to patient data at the University of Massachusetts Medical School hospital system.
Brian’s broader research interests entail utilizing a combination of wet- and dry-lab research techniques to study infectious disease outbreaks, along with designing widely-accessible and impactful global health interventions. Brian’s research in the Sabeti Lab was supported by the Herchel Smith Fellowship, the Harvard Program for Research in Science and Engineering (PRISE) Fellowship, and the Harvard College Research Program (HCRP) Fellowship.
In his free time, Brian serves as the Founder and President of the World Pre-Health Conference, an forum whose mission is to unite communities worldwide around advancing health; its conferences have now welcomed more than 1,500 attendees from more than 40 countries. Brian additionally serves as Co-President of the Harvard Pre-Medical Society, Co-President of the Harvard Undergraduate Global Health Forum, and Director of the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter.
