Lennart Justen is a graduate student in the Sabeti Lab hailing from the MIT Media Lab, where he is co-advised by Kevin Esvelt. He is also a recipient of the Draper Scholar fellowship. Lennart’s professional focus centers on biosecurity and pandemic preparedness, including work on airborne transmission suppression with germicidal ultraviolet light, biosurveillance with metagenomic sequencing, and AI-bio risk mitigation.
Lennart has an interdisciplinary background, with dual degrees in physics and political science, and experience across a range of science and emerging tech policy disciplines. He has previously held positions at SecureBio, the Council on Strategic Risks, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).
In his spare time, Lennart enjoys staying active through running, cycling, and swimming, and spending time with friends. He is originally from Germany but grew up in Minnesota and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
