SEUNGCHAN BAEK, Ph.D

headshot

Chan is a postdoc in the Sabeti lab. During his Ph.D. at Seoul National University, he wondered how microRNAs are differentially regulated in diseases. To answer that question, he sought to characterize the maturation pathway of all human microRNAs by examining massive biochemical assay and RNA structural probing data. Working on that, he gained expertise in analyzing RNA’s sequence and structure features.

In the Sabeti lab, Chan wants to develop quantitative methods to detect and characterize viral genomes. For this, he is currently working on making the amplification step for a variety of viral sequences to be reliable.

Outside of work, he is the father of two kids (3 year-old and 6 month-old) and mostly spends time with family. He also enjoys watching and playing sports.
